This talk highlights a few ways in which statistics has helped astronomy make progress, especially in this age of plenty for astronomical observations and data. Tools such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo, the bootstrap, generalized linear models, and modern machine-learning techniques have a solid core made of statistics. And, sometimes, some of the best statistical tools for modern astronomy don’t even require a computer (well, almost).
