Astronomy on Tap Corvallis: A Photon Walks Into a Bar…

Join us on Thursday October 20th at 7pm for a talk from Robin Case! His talk is titled:

A Photon Walks Into a Bar…

The starlight reaching your eyes at night has been on an epic journey. Born from fusion deep inside a star, a bit of light can spend tens of thousands of years just fighting its way to the surface. Then it crosses light-years of space, slipping past planets, drifting through clouds of cosmic dust and getting bent by gravity, before a split-second dash through Earth’s atmosphere into your eye. Everything it runs into along the way leaves a mark, and those marks are how astronomers learn what stars are made of. Grab a drink and follow one photon from star to eye! About Robin

Robin Case earned his bachelor’s degree in astrophysics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 2018, where he worked on observational supernova research with Dr. Ryan Foley. He is now finishing his PhD in physics at Oregon State University, working with Dr. Xavier Siemens in the NANOGrav collaboration.
