More Information

The objective of this project is to chart the location of shale outcrops along the Conasauga, Etowah, Coosawattee and Oostanaula rivers as well as the major tributaries in the Upper Coosa River Basin. The outcrops will be inspected to find any Cambrian period fossils. Another goal of the project is to publish an academic paper with the findings from the research project. The fossils will be cataloged by species, abundance, population, and density. There will also be a complete mapping of shale outcrops throughout the Upper Coosa River Basin along its rivers and tributaries. The fossil collection compiled during the research project will be displayed and used for educational purposes.
