Fernbank Science Centre is kicking off a new Planetarium Program called Cosmic Conversations, where guest scientists share big ideas about the Universe in a way everyone can enjoy. No experience needed . . . just a sense of wonder.
Coming up on September 18th is Dr. Justin Robinson, lecturer at Georgia State University's Department of Physics & Astronomy (he is also the Affiliate Director of the Georgia Space Grant Consortium which runs STEM events in Atlanta).
Everyone is welcome to attend, but registration is required as seats are limited.
The topic: Cosmic Conversations: Refining and Extending the Cosmic Distance Ladder
The conversation:
How big is the Universe, and how fast is it expanding? What exactly is dark energy, and could it be reshaping our understanding of the cosmos?
Astronomers tackle these big questions with the Cosmic Distance Ladder - a set of techniques for measuring distances across space, from pulsating stars to supermassive black holes.
Join us in the Jim Cherry Memorial Planetarium at Fernbank Science Center as Dr. Justin Robinson shares how cutting-edge telescopes like the James Webb Space Telescope, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, and the Vera C. Rubin Observatory are helping scientists refine these measurements and reveal the Universe in new ways.
No prior astronomy knowledge needed - just curiosity and a sense of wonder about the Universe!
