Join us at the Cowan Museum of History and Science for our annual ecoBLAST, as part of the North Carolina Science Festival. This year, we’ll celebrate our green (plants) and wild (animals) friends who live in North Carolina.  There will be fun educational activities, live animals, a plant sale, prizes, food, and ice cream! This event is free to the public and welcomes people of all ages.

Step back 66 million years and journey through the final chapter of the age of dinosaurs in Dinosaur Evolution—a thrilling immersive experience that brings the Cretaceous world to life. Witness feathered raptors on the hunt, armored giants defending their turf, and the mighty T. rex at the top of the food chain. But even these perfectly evolved creatures couldn’t escape Earth’s most devastating extinction event. Stunning visuals and cutting-edge science reveal how evolution shaped the dinosaurs—and how birds, their modern-day descendants, continue their legacy. It’s a prehistoric adventure that will inspire the next generation of paleontologists and conservationists alike. Learn how to safely evacuate an aircraft after an emergency water landing- just like the landing of US Airways Flight 1549!   Led by a former US Airways training specialist, this hands-on activity is  FREE with admission to the museum and suitable for most ages.

Join us for Science At Play, where science comes to life for even the littlest learners! Get ready for a morning of hands-on discovery where curiosity leads the way. Investigate ooey-gooey materials like slime, help build a collaborative city, explore the science inside your own body, and discover why science matters. The Museum will be open for regular exploration in addition to Science At Play activities. Science At Play is proud to be part of the statewide NC Science Festival. This year’s theme, “Science Matters”, highlights the important role science plays in our lives, and Science At Play invites families to experience just how meaningful (and fun!) it can be.

The Children’s Museum of Wilmington believes that children learn best through hands-on and creative educational experiences. We provide children with programs and interactive exhibits that emphasize critical thinking skills, STEAM instruction, and hands-on projects in small group sizes.   Where in eastern NC can you find fossils, flight simulators, faintin’ goats, AND over 2,000 feathered friends in one place? Well Sylvan Heights Bird Park of course!On Saturday, April 18th from 10:00AM-2:00PM, Sylvan Heights Bird Park will celebrate Earth Day, the largest family event of the year. This event brings the public together with over 20 regional environmental and community organizations in an interactive event that highlights careers in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) field through fun hands-on demonstrations, experiments, and activities.Visitors of all ages will have the chance to dig for fossils with the Aurora Fossil Museum and Scotland Neck’s Rock Museum, learn to fly with Elizabeth City State University’s Dept. of Aviation, learn about the latest in firefighting technology with Coopers Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, interact with faintin’ goats, miniature horses, reptiles and of course birds- just to name a few! All activities are free to the public with paid admission to the park.

Visit Sullenberger Aviation Museum on Saturday, April 4th from 1:00 pm -2:00 pm to hear U.S. Airways Flight 1549 passenger Glenn Carlson ( 6 B) share his expereience on this historic flight. This experience is FREE with paid admission to the museum.
