The Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925 highlighted the deep divide between fundamentalist and modernist views on evolution and more broadly, the perceived conflict between science and religion. This program will explore the origins of this historic trial, its key figures, the public spectacle surrounding it, and its enduring impact on society. Hybrid Event: Webinar requires registration, in-person does not require a reservation. Part of Flagstaff Festival of Science, a free annual 10-day event wholly designed to promote awareness and enthusiasm for science in and about northern Arizona and beyond, and is fondly known as the Best 10 Days of the Year. Established in 1990, it is the longest, continuously running, entirely free science festival in the world.
