More Information

From December 2025 through March 2026, GLOBE invited the public to participate in a new blowing snow pilot project. This GLOBE Observer Connect conversation with Bill Line (NOAA NESDIS) and Christina Buffington (GIO and University of Alaska Fairbanks) will share the results from the pilot project. The purpose of the blowing snow project is to fill a gap where ground-based photos are needed to validate a blowing snow satellite product made by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). We asked the GLOBE community to collect feature photos across the horizon that showed snow being lifted from the ground tens to hundreds of meters into the sky by winds. This Connect conversation will show how the blowing snow satellite product works and how GLOBE observations can continue to support it.
