Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Discovery Station: Bugs and More!

Come chat with Ranger Nikki and learn about cool critters with an exoskeleton, aka arthropods! Are you creeped out by creepy crawlers? Find out what makes them so special, why they are important in the ecosystem and see preserved (and even live) specimens. From delicate butterflies to hairy tarantulas to armored palo verde beetles, use a magnifier and microscope to examine some amazing segmented bodies, scaly wings, sharp stingers and more. You may walk away “buzzing” with a new appreciation for some of our often under-appreciated desert rock stars. If you are hiking before or after visiting, remember to wear your closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available at the Nature Center. MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center No registration required. Just stop by any time between 2pm and 4pm.
