More Information

A supermoon is the nickname given to the moon when it is near its closest approach to Earth. During this time, the moon appears slightly larger and brighter than average. On this trek with Ranger Nikki, we will use Gila Trail to connect to Baseline and Rainbow Valley trails to make a 2.5-mile loop. Most of the terrain is rated moderate for uneven and rocky surfaces except for Gila Trail at the beginning and end, which is rated barrier-free with a smooth surface. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring a flashlight and plenty of water. Hiking poles can be helpful for stability on the trail while gazing at the moon. Restrooms and a water fountain are available at the Nature Center and picnic area (on your way to the trailhead) and a portable restroom is available at the Trailhead. Please bring $7 exact cash for the self-pay station or your annual pass to display on your vehicle.
