Snail Hunt - Igarassu/PE

This is a public utility and collective health initiative derived from the project “From the Backyard to Space: Family Citizen Science.” It is coordinated by independent family scientists (CFI).

The African Giant Snail (Lissachatina fulica) is an invasive exotic species that causes severe damage to our biodiversity, local agriculture, and, above all, public health, acting as a vector for serious diseases like eosinophilic meningitis.

How to participate:

• When you find an African giant snail in Igarassu, take a safe photo (do not touch the animal without gloves).
• Upload the photo to this project on the iNaturalist app. Your data goes directly to a real-time map that helps municipal health teams plan collection and cleanup drives in the most critical areas. Let’s protect Igarassu together!
