More Information

Learn about reptiles and amphibians on this guided hike with Ranger Eric. Join Ranger Eric to go herping (looking for reptiles and amphibians) on this a short hike of part of Blevins and Amigos Wash Trails. We will discuss identification and behavior of Sonoran Desert herpetofauna as we go and discuss safety around venomous wildlife. Please wear sturdy footwear and sun protection, carry ample water for yourself, and pre-hydrate and take electrolytes beforehand. We will be walking on sand and some uneven or rocky surfaces, but the distance and time we spend on the hike will depend on the heat. We will at least try to do a little bit before it heats up. Restrooms are located at the Trailhead Staging Area parking lot. MEETING LOCATION: Trailhead Staging Area. Park map: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/usery-8x14.pdf Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/RM1ygxKypr9ZfeoC9 Limit 15 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 4 with your name, phone number, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on Thursday, 6/26. PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park.
