Come Join Ranger Derik on a family friendly hike through the night in search of scorpions and other nocturnal species! The hike is rated as moderate and will cover 3 miles and gain 300ft of elevation on rocky trail. Hikers should bring plenty of water, wear hiking boots or trail runners, and bring a flashlight and/or blacklight. Please make sure your flashlight has extra batteries or is fully charged. Cell phone flashlights are not sufficient. If you have blacklights feel free to bring them along and help the ranger in the hunt for scorpions. PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park. MEETING LOCATION: Pipeline Canyon Trailhead at Cottonwood Day Use Area (North Entry) Precise meeting location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/3fx8jrGepV5CgHmeA Limit 25 participants. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 8/15/25.
