More Information
Welcome! Join us for a guided adventure in the beautiful McDowell Sonoran Preserve. We have something for everyone. The Conservancy relies on the generosity of donors to support our conservation efforts in the Preserve. Your contributions help us mitigate invasive species, restore burned areas, and monitor wildlife to identify current and future threats. To participate, we suggest a minimum donation of $10 per person, but feel free to give what you feel is appropriate. Your donation directly supports the protection of the Preserve and is tax-deductible. Read below for important details and then sign up! Description Join our birding guides on these easy 2-hour walks. We will look for whatever bird activity is happening at the time of year. Bring your binoculars. Arrive 15 minutes before start of the event. Birds you might see: Year-round bird residents: cactus wren, canyon towhee, Gila woodpecker, ladder-backed woodpecker, Harris’s hawk, verdin, or Say’s phoebe. During migration, we can see a large variety: phainopepla, American kestrel, gilded flicker, curve-billed thrasher, Abert’s towhee, or various warblers (Wilson’s, Lucy’s, Townsend’s, or yellow warbler). Those that spend the winter in our area: phainopepla, black-throated sparrow, white-crowned sparrow, black-tailed gnatcatcher, or northern mockingbird. Early-arriving summer residents: white-winged dove, turkey vulture, or ash-throated flycatcher.
